Bihar Alliances Push Toward Seat Deals as CPI-ML Balks and Manjhi Presses for 15

Alliance negotiators face compressed deadlines under the Election Commission’s two-phase schedule.

Overview

  • RJD and Congress leaders said the Mahagathbandhan’s seat distribution will be announced within days, while VIP chief Mukesh Sahani indicated the bloc will also name its chief ministerial and deputy chief ministerial faces by Wednesday.
  • A reported INDIA-bloc formula cited by The New Indian Express assigns 125 seats to RJD, 55–57 to Congress, 35 to the Left, 20 to VIP, three to RLJP and two to JMM, though Left leaders signaled dissatisfaction with their share.
  • CPI (M-L) Liberation rejected an RJD offer of 19 seats as unacceptable and submitted a fresh list of around 30 constituencies it described as non-negotiable.
  • On the NDA side, talks continue with indications that BJP and JD(U) could take the bulk of seats, as HAM chief Jitan Ram Manjhi publicly demanded at least 15 seats and said he would otherwise forgo contesting while still backing the alliance.
  • AAP entered the fray with an initial list of 11 candidates and a campaign led by Sanjay Singh, as the ECI set polling for November 6 and 11 with counting on November 14 and a final roll of about 7.43 crore voters.
