Biguine, First Brahman From Martinique, Named 2026 Salon de l’Agriculture Mascot

The selection aims to spotlight overseas French farming as a climate-resilient model.

Overview

  • The six-year-old cow was born in 2019 at Exploitation du Galion in La Trinité, where breeder André Prosper manages about 300 Brahman cattle.
  • Organizers confirmed it is the first time the Brahman breed will be featured as the fair’s emblem.
  • Biguine traveled by boat to mainland France in early November with four other Brahman cows under regulated welfare and health conditions.
  • The animals are being hosted on a farm in Bourgogne‑Franche‑Comté until the exhibition at Paris Expo–Porte de Versailles from 21 February to 1 March 2026.
  • Descended from Indian zebu, the breed is prized in the French overseas territories—roughly 45,000 head—for tolerance to heat and humidity and relative resistance to ticks and bovine diseases.
