Biden Transmits Compacts of Free Association Agreements to Congress

The agreements aim to strengthen U.S. relationships with the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands, reflecting the U.S.'s strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

President Biden has transmitted five agreements related to the Compacts of Free Association to the U.S. Congress, which are aimed at strengthening relationships with the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI).
The agreements include procedures for the implementation of U.S. economic assistance, federal programs and services agreement, and amendments to the Compact of Free Association.
The Biden Administration is working with Congress to enact legislation for the implementation of these agreements, and has called for the passage of Compacts-related legislation as soon as possible.
The Compacts of Free Association demonstrate the U.S.'s long-term commitment to FSM, RMI, and the Republic of Palau, and are integral to the U.S.'s strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
These agreements include economic assistance for essential government services such as health, education, and infrastructure, as well as U.S. contributions to Compact Trust Funds to support these countries' future self-sufficiency.
