Biden Taps Gen. Eric Smith to Lead U.S. Marine Corps

President Biden nominated Gen. Eric Smith, a highly decorated officer, to serve as the next Marine Corps commandant.
Smith has served as the No. 2 officer in the Marine Corps since October 2021 and helped develop its vision for future force, known as Force Design 2030.
Smith is a combat veteran who has commanded at every level and served multiple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Smith worked closely with current commandant Gen. David Berger to transform the Marine Corps to better fight in the Pacific.
Smith has focused on recruiting, retention and developing Marine forces and supports retention bonuses to keep Marines from leaving after their first tour.
