Biathlon Legend Johannes Thingnes Bö Announces Early Retirement

The record-breaking Norwegian star will step away from the sport after this season to prioritize family life.

Johannes Thingnes Bö, a five-time Olympic gold medalist and 20-time world champion, announced his retirement at the Ruhpolding World Cup.
Originally planning to retire after the 2026 Olympics, Bö decided to end his career early, citing the toll of maintaining dominance and a desire to spend more time with his family.
Bö’s illustrious career includes 79 World Cup victories, 88 total career wins, and a record-breaking performance at the 2023 World Championships with seven medals, five of them gold.
His final competitive appearances will include the World Championships in Lenzerheide in February and his farewell race at Holmenkollen in Oslo on March 23.
Tributes from rivals and teammates celebrated Bö as the greatest biathlete of all time and a role model for prioritizing family over further accolades.
