Bhopal Opens Atal Bhawan as Unified City HQ, Unveils 10.5 MW Solar Project

The overhaul streamlines municipal services in one site to save time for residents.

Overview

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated Atal Bhawan on Thursday in Tulsi Nagar, opening an eight-storey headquarters meant to bring Bhopal’s scattered civic departments into one place.
  • The new building features geothermal cooling and solar panels over the parking that are expected to generate about 300 kilowatts of power.
  • A ground-floor service center now concentrates public-facing counters for taxes, registrations, permits and help desks so people no longer need to visit multiple offices across the city.
  • Alongside the building launch, Bhopal Municipal Corporation started a 10.5 MW solar plant in Neemuch under a 25-year public–private deal in which BMC contributed about ₹14 crore toward a project reported near ₹45 crore to cut its electricity bills.
  • Reports put the headquarters’ construction cost at about ₹43–44 crore, and one technical note flags that the parking-lot panels’ north–south layout could reduce their energy output.
