Bhopal, Jaipur and Other Districts Order Navratri Bans on Meat, Fish and Egg Sales

Officials say the curbs protect Hindu devotional sentiments during the festival.

Overview

  • In Madhya Pradesh’s capital, Bhopal authorities banned the sale of meat, fish and eggs from September 22 to October 2 for Navratri, according to SDM Divya Patel.
  • Jaipur Municipal Corporation Heritage ordered a halt to the open sale of meat during the festival, with Mayor Kusum Yadav citing religious sentiments and public hygiene.
  • Maihar issued a September 20 order under BNSS Section 163 stopping meat, fish and egg sales through October 2, with violations punishable under Section 233 by up to six months in jail and a Rs 2,500 fine.
  • Umaria district imposed a Navratri ban on non-vegetarian food after consultations with representatives of different communities, SDM Kamlesh Neeraj said.
