Bharti Airtel Shares Fall as Promoter Offloads ₹9,300 Crore Stake

Proceeds are earmarked to fund Bharti group’s strategic ventures.

Overview

  • Indian Continent Investment Ltd sold 5 crore shares at ₹1,862 apiece in a block deal arranged by Jefferies and JP Morgan, raising about ₹9,300 crore.
  • The transaction cuts ICIL’s direct stake in Bharti Airtel from 2.47% to 1.67% while aggregate promoter holdings remain above 51%.
  • Airtel shares slid nearly 3%, touching around ₹1,868 on the BSE as investors digested the roughly 3% discount on the deal price.
  • This is ICIL’s second major divestment in the past year, following a ₹8,485 crore stake sale in February 2025.
  • Proceeds are expected to support Mittal group’s planned acquisition of a stake in Haier India and other strategic investments.
