Bharti Airtel Partners With IBM to Expand AI-Ready Cloud in India

Overview

  • Airtel Cloud customers will gain access to IBM services including AI-ready Power systems for banking, healthcare, government and other sectors.
  • Airtel said it will expand its availability zones in India from four to ten, hosted on its next‑generation sustainable data centers.
  • The companies plan to establish two Multizone Regions in Mumbai and Chennai to bolster resilience and data residency for mission‑critical applications.
  • IBM’s stack for AI inferencing built on watsonx and Red Hat OpenShift AI will support hybrid deployments, including migration paths from IBM Power Systems and workloads such as AIX, IBM i, Linux and SAP Cloud ERP.
  • The announcement follows a wave of AI infrastructure commitments in India, including Google’s $15 billion plan and a separate Airtel collaboration on a Visakhapatnam data center.
