Bharat Taxi Launches as Driver-Owned, Zero-Commission Ride-Hailing Alternative

Backed by major cooperatives under the Ministry of Cooperation, the service targets predictable pricing to challenge private aggregators.

Overview

  • The app went live today with downloads on iOS and Android, enabling instant city rides and intercity bookings.
  • Operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited and supported by Amul, IFFCO, NABARD and NDDB, it runs on a cooperative, driver-owner model.
  • Fares are fixed with no surge, with bands starting at Rs 30 for the first 4 km, Rs 23 per km for 4–12 km, and Rs 18 per km beyond.
  • The platform says drivers pay zero commission and keep the full fare, and the Ministry of Cooperation reports over 120,000 registrations before launch.
  • Safety features include GPS tracking and links with Delhi Police, DigiLocker and UMANG, following a Delhi pilot and preceding expansion to major cities.
