Bhagwat Rules Out RSS Control Over BJP Decisions, Citing Party’s Own Timetable

The clarification comes during a centenary Q&A in New Delhi.

Overview

  • Answering questions at the RSS centenary event, Mohan Bhagwat said the Sangh does not decide BJP matters, including the party presidency, quipping that if it did, the delay would not exist.
  • He described the RSSBJP dynamic as one of advice and trust with no quarrel, noting coordination with governments and citing British-era systems and other hurdles that require leaders to be given independence.
  • Addressing speculation about a 75-year retirement norm, Bhagwat said he never advocated it and that Sangh functionaries work as long as the organisation requires.
  • On demography, he identified religious conversion and illegal migration as sources of imbalance, urged jobs for Indian citizens including Muslims, and said religion should be a matter of choice without allure or coercion.
  • He encouraged families to consider three children, praised the National Education Policy, backed prioritising Indian languages over a foreign lingua franca, and said RSS volunteers help any party when directed by the Sangh.
