Bezzecchi Suspended From Czech GP After Slapping Marshal

Appeal stewards upheld a one-race ban after onboard footage showed him strike a track marshal, and the decision removes him from Sunday's race, trimming his championship lead to 15 points.

Overview

  • Video from Saturday's Sprint at Brno shows Marco Bezzecchi running to his stranded Aprilia after a marshal accidentally revved the throttle, then pushing and striking the marshal while marshals were recovering the bike.
  • FIM MotoGP stewards cited Article 3.3.2.2 as the basis for a suspension from the remainder of the Czech Grand Prix for an action judged prejudicial to the interests of the sport.
  • Aprilia lodged an immediate appeal but the FIM MotoGP Appeal Stewards rejected it the same night and the team confirmed on Sunday it will not pursue a further international appeal.
  • Bezzecchi issued a public apology, personally apologised to the marshal at the marshal post, and will not start the Sunday race as the starting grid and running order were adjusted.
  • The ban cuts Bezzecchi's buffer to 15 points over Jorge Martin and hands rivals, including Ducati riders and Marc Marquez, a clearer chance to gain championship ground while underscoring stewards' emphasis on protecting marshals and event safety.
