Bethesda Rejected Multiple Elder Scrolls Spin-Off Pitches from Obsidian

Proposed games were intended to serve as 'New Vegas' style spin-offs, providing additional adventures in the Elder Scrolls universe.

  • Obsidian Entertainment, known for its work on Fallout: New Vegas, pitched multiple Elder Scrolls spin-off games to Bethesda, all of which were rejected.
  • Chris Avellone, ex-Obsidian writer, confirmed that one of the proposed Elder Scrolls games was intended to serve the same function as Fallout: New Vegas, providing more adventures in the setting during the years before the next Bethesda release.
  • Avellone suggested a system similar to what Treyarch/Activision had with Call of Duty, where Bethesda would release a core game and Obsidian would release a spin-off title in the same world or a divergent timeline.
  • One proposed concept was an alternate timeline or parallel universe of Tamriel, where heroes from previous titles had failed to 'save the world.'
  • Despite the rejections, the possibility of Obsidian creating an Elder Scrolls game or another Fallout isn't too far-fetched, as both Bethesda and Obsidian are now Xbox first-party studios.
