Bethesda Confirms Fallout 5 Is in Preproduction and Expands Fallout Roadmap

The studio says remasters, an Obsidian-led Fallout title, a 2027 Fallout 76 expansion, plus TV and live events will keep the franchise active as teams align on Creation Engine 3.

Overview

  • Bethesda confirmed Friday that Fallout 5 is in preproduction and that most of the studio’s staff remain focused on developing The Elder Scrolls VI.
  • The company says it is building Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI on Creation Engine 3 to let teams work on multiple projects using the same technology.
  • Bethesda announced official remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas and confirmed Obsidian Entertainment is working with them on a separate new Fallout project.
  • Fallout 76 will receive a major expansion called Raven Rock in 2027 that serves as a prequel to Fallout 3, and Fallout Shelter and the TV adaptations will get continued support.
  • The roadmap follows Xbox’s large restructuring and layoffs that reduced studio staff, creating uncertainty about timelines and raising questions about team capacity and morale.
