Goetz, the First Woman to Oversee the Full Athletics Department at Iowa, Emerges from National Search as Top Candidate

Beth Goetz has been officially appointed as the University of Iowa's athletic director, after serving in an interim role since August 2023.
She is the first woman to oversee the full athletics department at the University of Iowa, and is currently the only female athletic director in the Big Ten.
Goetz has a rich background in athletics and administration, having served as Ball State's athletic director for four years, and holding various roles at Connecticut and Minnesota.
During her interim role, Goetz made national headlines when she fired the football team's offensive coordinator, Brian Ferentz, due to the team's poor offensive performance over three years.
Goetz's appointment follows a national search conducted by University President Barbara Wilson, during which multiple sitting athletic directors were interviewed.
