Overview

  • Around 9:25 AM on June 16, a BEST electric midi bus’s rear left tyre sank into a section of Babasaheb Jaykar Marg that caved in near the Girgaon Metro Line 3 construction site
  • All 40 passengers were evacuated safely and the bus was extricated by 10:45 AM before being towed to Backbay Depot with only minor damage
  • MMRCL blamed water ingress into a basement pit for ground loss, while BMC inspections found no significant leak and pointed to adjacent deep excavation as a possible trigger
  • The 300-meter stretch of Jaykar Marg remains closed with traffic diverted via M.K. Road and Girgaon Church Road until repairs are complete
  • MMRCL has been assigned to re-excavate and reconstruct the damaged road section and has engaged geotechnical experts to identify causes and safeguard against further collapses
