Bescot Station Murder Trial: Defendant Denies Presence, Disputes Forensic Evidence

The defendant now challenges forensic testimony linking him to the scene.

Overview

  • Testifying on Tuesday and into Wednesday, Deng Chol Majek rejected forensic findings that Rhiannon Skye Whyte’s blood was on his jacket, trousers, sandals and rings, telling jurors, “I disagree with all of it.”
  • Majek maintained he was outside the Park Inn smoking during the attack and insisted CCTV images from the station and a nearby shop do not show him.
  • Prosecutors say CCTV tracked a man following Ms Whyte to Bescot Stadium station and later throwing her mobile phone into the River Tame, which police divers recovered.
  • Agreed facts read to the jury detailed Majek’s arrest at 05:06 on October 21 at the hotel and a legally represented police interview that lasted about 90 minutes in which he remained silent.
  • The court has heard a dispute over his age and identity, with a German record listing a 1998 birthdate contrasted with his assertion that he is 19 and the defense attributing the discrepancy to a documentation error.
