Overview
- Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz said the first section will reopen on June 4, 2027, restoring public access to the Pergamon Altar after a full closure since autumn 2023.
- Only the central building and the north wing will be accessible, including the Altar, the Hellenistic Hall, and a newly arranged Museum of Islamic Art featuring the Mshatta façade.
- The south wing, home to the Ishtar Gate and the Babylonian Processional Way, will stay closed with full completion expected around 2037.
- In the run-up to the partial reopening, teams will install galleries for the Antiquities Collection, the Museum of Islamic Art, and the Museum of the Ancient Near East, and prepare ticketing and cloakrooms.
- The foundation corrected an initial press note that mistakenly listed 2026, and FAZ highlights that building work across Museum Island has stretched about 25 years and cost roughly three billion euros.
