Overview
- The line between Berlin-Südkreuz and Bitterfeld is closed from Wednesday until 13 December as Deutsche Bahn renews nearly 100 km of track, refurbishes 38 km and installs or repairs 92 switches.
- ICE services to southern Germany are rerouted, adding roughly 45–60 minutes between Berlin and Leipzig/Halle, with Berlin–Frankfurt trains via Erfurt canceled and the Kassel route unchanged.
- Long-distance trains skip Südkreuz and are routed via Ostbahnhof or Ostkreuz, which reduces regional capacity on the Stadtbahn and removes Lutherstadt Wittenberg from long-distance stops.
- Regional lines RE3, RE4, RE8, RB24, RB32 and RB33 are replaced or shortened with extensive bus services, including hubs at Teltow Stadt and Waßmannsdorf and express links to Jüterbog and Wittenberg.
- From 24 October, Berlin Hauptbahnhof–Südkreuz also closes for an electronic interlocking rebuild tied to the December timetable change, further affecting RE5, RE85 and RB14 while S-Bahn service continues.
