Berlin Zoo Names Panda Cubs Leni and Lotti

Leni and Lotti are the German nicknames for the panda twins, while their official Chinese names are Meng Hao ('Beautiful Dreams') and Meng Tian ('Sweet Dreams').
The names were announced in a ceremony attended by Berlin's mayor and China's ambassador, highlighting the cultural and diplomatic significance of the pandas.
Leni honors Marlene Dietrich, a Berlin-born actress, while Lotti is a tribute to the Charlottenburg district of Berlin.
Born on August 22, 2024, the cubs are thriving, gaining around 100 grams daily and now weighing nearly six kilograms each.
The pandas, like their predecessors Pit and Paule, remain the property of China and are expected to return there in a few years as part of China's panda loan program.
