Overview

  • The pilot starts on Kreuzbergstraße on September 9, with subsequent installations planned on Invalidenstraße, Stargarder Straße/Schönhauser Allee/Prenzlauer Allee, and Handjerystraße/Prinzregentenstraße.
  • Displays mounted about 200 meters before intersections will show whether the next light is expected to be red or green upon arrival.
  • The guidance is calculated for a default cycling speed of 20 km/h rather than using riders’ actual speeds.
  • The Federal Ministry of Transport covers 85% of project funding, and each display costs roughly €3,000 before additional expenses for power supply, signal digitalisation and planning.
  • Authorities seek smoother bicycle traffic and fewer red‑light violations, with comprehensive evaluation of traffic flow and rider behaviour planned after deployment.
