Overview
- Berlin police confirmed to dpa that not a single illegal spring knife was handed in to the weapons authority.
- The amnesty allowed owners to turn in the banned items without prosecution through Oct. 1, 2025.
- A 2024 change to the Weapons Act imposed much stricter rules on lateral spring knives, while front-opening models were already illegal.
- Since July, carrying knives and other weapons has been prohibited across Berlin’s public transport network, including buses, U- and S-Bahn, stations and platforms.
- Separate weapons-ban zones at Görlitzer Park, Kottbusser Tor and Leopoldplatz allow fines up to €10,000, though early enforcement faltered due to missing signage and no fines issued.
