Berlin Sees Massive Pro-Palestine March With Police Counting At Least 58,000

Organizers sought to force a German halt to arms exports to Israel.

Overview

  • Berlin police reported at least 58,000 people at the Tiergarten rally, while organizers claimed more than 100,000 participants nationwide.
  • Roughly 1,800 officers were deployed citywide as the main gathering remained largely peaceful, and a separate Kreuzberg march of about 1,200 people was dissolved over prohibited slogans and other offences.
  • A coalition of about 50 groups, including Amnesty International, Medico International and Die Linke, led the mobilization with demands for an end to German arms deliveries, humanitarian access to Gaza and EU sanctions on Israel.
  • Speakers, including organizer Michael Barenboim and Left Party leader Ines Schwerdtner, labeled Israel’s Gaza campaign a genocide, a charge the Israeli government rejects.
  • Parallel demonstrations took place in other cities such as Düsseldorf, where several thousand marched and the local transport authority warned of significant disruptions.
