Overview

  • Large parts of the former mint at Molkenmarkt will be leased to Spreewerkstätten for at least 20 years with a 10-year extension option at €613,560 per year covering rent, ancillary costs and maintenance.
  • Spreewerkstätten has pledged at least €18 million in investments over two decades while the state plans to spend around €33 million on renovations of areas outside the operator’s use.
  • A profit-sharing clause obliges the operator to pay a share of revenues exceeding a set threshold back to the state.
  • The state’s cultural committee is set to deliberate and vote on the agreement later today.
  • The Koalition der freien Szene contends that the arrangement fails to secure clear access for independent cultural groups and denounced it as detrimental to Berlin’s free scene.
