Berlin S-Bahn Cuts S1, S8 and S85 Service Through Early Next Week for Hohen Neuendorf Signal Cable Work

Deutsche Bahn is working on signalling cables near the recently commissioned Hohen Neuendorf interlocking after new faults emerged this month.

Overview

  • Service on S1 is suspended between Frohnau and Birkenwerder until about 1:30 a.m. Monday, with replacement buses operating.
  • Trains continue every 10 minutes between Wannsee and Frohnau on S1, and every 20 minutes between Birkenwerder and Oranienburg.
  • Buses are running on S8 between Mühlenbeck‑Mönchmühle and Birkenwerder to cover the affected section.
  • S85 turns back at Waidmannslust instead of Frohnau to help preserve the S1 10‑minute frequency on its core segment.
  • The Hohen Neuendorf electronic interlocking entered service in spring 2024 and was largely stable until summer, with recurring problems reported since early September.
