Berlin Rail Disruptions After Fatal ICE Platform Strike, Wedding Fire and S8 Track Obstruction

Federal police are investigating suspected negligent arson linked to pyrotechnics at Wedding.

Overview

  • An ICE passing Jungfernheide around 05:49 struck a man on the platform who died at the scene, closing the Spandau–Hauptbahnhof corridor until about 08:20 with ICE rerouted and regional trains canceled.
  • Ringbahn lines S41 and S42 remain suspended between Gesundbrunnen and Westhafen, with replacement buses running between Westend and Gesundbrunnen and U-Bahn detours advised.
  • Because of the Jungfernheide emergency, the Ringbahn closure was expanded to Westend from 06:00 to 08:25 before being scaled back.
  • A service-room fire on the Wedding platform shortly after midnight was brought under control in roughly 30 minutes after flames reached the platform roof, and inquiries into negligent arson are underway.
  • Unknown individuals placed objects on S8 tracks near Mühlenbeck‑Mönchmühle around 06:00, suspending service between Blankenburg and Bergfelde with replacement buses, while an internal DB page lists repairs extending into the afternoon.
