Overview
- Berlin’s strategy combines three permanent weapons-ban zones, a citywide public-transport weapons ban, and an LKA coordination unit created to track patterns and target repeat offenders.
- From mid-February to the end of November, police conducted 3,904 checks in the zones, seizing 133 knives, two firearms and 38 other weapons.
- Since the public-transport ban began in July, officers carried out 11,500 checks and confiscated 151 knives, five firearms and other prohibited items.
- Police now report almost 300 knives seized overall, and the LKA has identified 224 repeat offenders, with carrying bans under review for 35 individuals.
- Authorities also applied administrative penalties, including five driving-license revocations and nine ordered medical-psychological assessments, while 2024 still logged 3,412 knife attacks in Berlin.
