Investigators revealed that the man had applied for asylum in Austria in June 2022 under the name 'Suraj Bahn,' which Indian authorities later confirmed to be fictitious.
Witnesses reported seeing a group of young men searching for the individual near the river two days before the body was discovered, but they have not come forward.
Police have released photos of the man and are urging anyone with information, including the unidentified group, to contact them.
