Berlin Police Arrest Suspected Fake Officer After Cash Robbery at Car Sale

Investigators continue to hunt two additional suspects after seizing police-style gear from the man in custody.

Overview

  • Police say two men posing as plainclothes officers seized a five-figure payment and another four-figure sum during a planned vehicle purchase on a supermarket parking lot in Reinickendorf.
  • The 29-year-old buyer had just paid the agreed amount when the impostors ordered occupants from the car under the pretense of confiscation and then fled by vehicle.
  • During the escape, the getaway car ran over the foot of the buyer’s 38-year-old companion, who later declined medical treatment.
  • The victims pursued the suspects to a dead-end on Armbrustweg, where one man drew what police described as a firearm and threatened the buyer before fleeing on foot.
  • Officers arrested a 42-year-old near Emmentaler Straße, seized the escape vehicle with a small amount of cash and a phone, and recovered a protective vest, a radio, an airsoft pistol, handcuffs, and keys as they investigate aggravated robbery, impersonation of officials, and dangerous bodily harm.
