Overview

  • The 3.2‑kilometre Section 16 from Dreieck Neukölln to Treptower Park was released for traffic after roughly a dozen years of construction.
  • The new stretch runs largely in a trench up to seven meters deep with an approximately 400‑meter tunnel and adds three junctions at Grenzallee, Sonnenallee and Treptower Park.
  • Officials marked the opening at the Estrel Hotel with Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder and Mayor Kai Wegner, while Autobahn GmbH set the technical release for the afternoon.
  • Police reported about 280 officers on duty as demonstrations by groups including the ‘A100 wegbassen’ alliance proceeded peacefully, featuring a large “ENDE” banner at the Treptower Park exit.
  • Backers cite relief for local streets and better access to BER and routes toward Dresden, Cottbus and Frankfurt (Oder), whereas critics warn of higher traffic, noise and emissions and note a likely choke point near the Elsenbrücke works continuing until 2028.
