Overview

  • The 16th section from Dreieck Neukölln to Treptower Park opens for motor traffic after more than a decade of work, adding three junctions and costing about €721 million with much of the route in a trench up to seven meters deep.
  • Officials mark the inauguration at the Estrel Hotel with Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder and Mayor Kai Wegner, while groups including “A100 wegbassen” stage demonstrations at the Treptower exit and the hotel.
  • Autobahn GmbH and business associations say the link will pull traffic off residential streets in Neukölln and Treptow and improve access to BER and connections toward Dresden, Cottbus and Frankfurt (Oder).
  • Opponents such as the Greens, BUND and Greenpeace argue the project increases noise and emissions and label it Germany’s most expensive motorway section.
  • Attention turns to the contested 17th section, with proponents urging federal planning to proceed and critics warning of higher costs, long timelines, cultural losses and local traffic pressures including projected increases on parts of Sonnenallee and constraints near the Elsenbrücke until its replacement is finished.
