Berlin Nears Official Renaming of Kurfürstendamm Crossing to Harald-Juhnke-Platz

Publication of the official gazette notice has cleared the way for the renaming to take effect on September 1 if no objections are filed.

Overview

  • The 470-square-meter public area at the intersection of Kurfürstendamm, Grolmanstraße and Uhlandstraße will bear Juhnke’s name.
  • Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf’s district assembly voted unanimously in March to approve the renaming.
  • A formal district office decision was issued on April 1 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Juhnke’s death.
  • The renaming was announced in the Official Gazette in May, and the FDP faction has already had the new street sign fabricated.
  • The change will become effective on September 1 unless formal objections are received by that date.
