Berlin Implements Permanent Weapons and Knife Ban in Crime Hotspots

The new measure, starting February 2025, targets three high-crime areas and includes strict enforcement with fines up to €10,000.

The Berlin Senate has approved permanent weapons and knife bans in Görlitzer Park, Kottbusser Tor, and Leopoldplatz, effective February 15, 2025.
The ban prohibits all weapons, including firearms, stun guns, and knives of any size, even kitchen and pocket knives, with limited exceptions for law enforcement and specific professions.
Police are authorized to conduct random checks without suspicion, and violations may result in fines up to €10,000 and confiscation of prohibited items.
The policy comes in response to a 5% increase in knife-related attacks in Berlin last year, with 3,482 incidents recorded in 2023.
A temporary weapons and knife ban will also be enforced during Berlin's New Year's Eve celebrations at the Brandenburg Gate to ensure public safety.
