Overview

• Governing Mayor Kai Wegner presented the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin to 14 recipients in the Great Hall of the Red Town Hall on October 1.
• Honorees include musician and theater director Peter Plate, Schwules Museum co-founder Detlef Mücke, pastor Martin Germer, and DDR peace activist Almut Ilsen.
• Techno and club pioneer Dietmar Maria “Dimitri” Hegemann was recognized alongside former finance senator and Special Olympics Germany president Christiane Krajewski.
• Longtime RBB reporter Ulli Zelle received the medal, as did Janine von Wolfersdorff for coordinating humanitarian supplies to Ukraine and Carola Zarth for advancing women in the trades.
• Wegner said the recipients’ varied paths show how civic engagement benefits Berlin and reinforces the city’s sense of togetherness.
