Berlin Extends Knife and Weapons Ban at Major Train Stations to Nov. 17

Police cite weapons seizures plus arrests as justification for continued checks.

Overview

  • In the first three weeks, officers checked 4,881 people and secured 249 prohibited items.
  • Seizures included 124 knives, 73 irritant sprays, more than 20 other weapons, and 21 additional dangerous objects.
  • Controls also uncovered 329 additional crimes, produced 367 police hits, and led to 25 arrests on open warrants.
  • The order covers 15 Berlin hubs plus Potsdam Hauptbahnhof, including Hauptbahnhof, Ostkreuz, Alexanderplatz, and Zoologischer Garten.
  • The temporary measure enables suspicionless checks, and a decision on any extension beyond mid‑November will follow a further evaluation.
