Overview
- On its first day, police carried out 600 checks across Berlin’s trains and buses and seized eleven knives, three pepper spray canisters and illicit drugs.
- The ordinance took effect July 17 and covers blank-firing guns, pepper gas devices, cutting and thrusting weapons, electroshockers and batons.
- Owners of confiscated items will face administrative offense proceedings and fines under the new rules.
- More than 100 Landespolizei officers, supported by Bundespolizei units and BVG security staff, are enforcing the ban with broad authority to stop and search without prior cause.
