Overview

  • The Verwaltungsgericht Berlin is holding a July 15 hearing to assess if FU Berlin failed to curb antisemitic discrimination on campus under the city’s higher education law.
  • Lahav Shapira contends that pro-Palestinian events on the FU campus created an unsafe environment and violated the university’s legal obligations.
  • The administrative court convenes in secured rooms at the Kriminalgericht Moabit and expects to issue its judgment later the same day.
  • On July 17 the Amtsgericht Tiergarten will try a 32-year-old defendant accused of blocking Shapira’s lecture-hall access and assaulting him with antisemitic insults in December 2023.
  • Since October 2023 antisemitic incidents at Berlin higher education institutions have risen over 650 percent, leading to new antisemitism officers and legislative debates on campus safety measures.
