Berlin Closes Central Tiergarten Streets for CSD Setup

Authorities have shut key roads to allow stage and route construction ahead of Saturday’s Christopher Street Day parade.

Overview

  • Setup work began Wednesday, July 22, and has already closed the Straße des 17. Juni between the Brandenburger Tor and Großer Stern.
  • The Verkehrsinformationszentrale says the Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße and Ebertstraße between Scheidemannstraße and Behrenstraße are also closed and will remain shut through Monday for build-up and dismantling.
  • The CSD parade is scheduled to start Saturday at 12:00, and organizers plan an afternoon procession that finishes with a rally at the Brandenburger Tor.
  • Transport services will be affected: the S-Bahn inner-city link will be suspended from Friday evening to Monday morning between Friedrichstraße and Bahnhof Zoo, regional trains will not run between Ostbahnhof and Charlottenburg, and replacement buses will operate.
  • The closures are logistical measures tied to the CSD, which commemorates the 1969 Stonewall uprising and is expected to draw large crowds, and officials are advising drivers and visitors to use ring and U-Bahn lines to avoid disruptions.
