Overview

• A five-storey mixed-use building on Reinhardtstraße was cleared Thursday after the roof frame shifted forward and pressed part of the facade toward the street.
• THW secured the structure overnight with internal grips and steel cables, added an external barrier, and deployed laser sensors to track any movement.
• The site was handed back for owner-led repairs, with a Prüfingenieur and the Mitte building authority to decide re-entry; a pedestrian protection tunnel was installed and the street remains closed.
• Thirteen residents were evacuated and nearby shops and parked cars were affected by the closure near the Friedrichstadt-Palast.
• Police opened an inquiry into possible criminal construction defects, as images and witnesses indicate the roof displacement has been visible since at least 2022.
