Overview
- The Flughafengesellschaft Berlin‑Brandenburg has moved to abolish the extra charge that applied to takeoffs and landings between 22:00 and 23:59, saying the fee mainly hit airlines whose planes overnight at BER.
- At the same time the operator plans a recalibration of noise charges that raises base fees by about ten percent and gives lower charges to quieter aircraft to steer incentives toward less noisy planes.
- The Brandenburg infrastructure ministry has already signalled approval for the change that leaves the formal midnight‑to‑05:00 night flight ban and its much higher penalty in place.
- Airport leaders say the measure responds to falling passenger numbers and airline complaints about high costs, a pressure that increased after Ryanair announced a pullback from BER.
- BER handled about 37 late‑evening landings on average, and the operator says the policy aims to protect key airline links while the full effects on revenue, schedules and local noise exposure remain to be assessed.
