BER Operations Stabilize After Ransomware Cripples Collins Check-In Platform

Officials say operations are stable on fallback procedures pending security clearance to reconnect the provider’s systems.

Overview

  • ENISA confirmed a ransomware attack on Collins Aerospace’s passenger-processing platform and said law enforcement is involved, with no attribution yet.
  • Berlin Brandenburg reported no unusual queues on Tuesday, though some delays persist, and urged travelers to use self-service kiosks that run on a separate system.
  • The airport is working down a baggage backlog with additional staff, including support from the airport fire brigade.
  • At least four airports reported handling issues linked to the outage—Berlin, Brussels, Dublin and London Heathrow—with Brussels saying over 90 percent of Tuesday departures operated on time using alternatives.
  • Collins said updates to restore full functionality were nearly complete, but BER stated reconnection would only occur after security checks; on Monday about three quarters of BER departures were delayed and Eurocontrol logged only about 30 percent leaving within 15 minutes.
