Overview
- BER has upgraded about 6,000 of its 15,000 runway light points with LED fixtures in a phased retrofit
- The new LEDs are programmed to dim or power down fully once scheduled flight operations conclude for the night
- The energy-saving measure was implemented in coordination with all relevant aviation and regulatory authorities
- Airport tower and ground control centers remain staffed around the clock to restore runway lighting immediately if unscheduled flights occur
- The phased rollout will continue across the remaining runway lights as part of BER’s broader sustainability drive
