Overview

• The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received the first call at 8:09pm and mobilised two fire engines and a height appliance to Benview Street in Ruchill.
• Police Scotland confirmed the building was derelict and said there were no reports of injuries.
• Residents were told to keep windows and doors closed due to thick smoke, with advisories covering Murano Street, Bilsland Drive, Benview Street and Lenny Street.
• People were also urged to avoid Ruchill Park while crews remained at the scene late into the night.
• The blaze occurred near the University of Glasgow’s Murano Street Student Village, and inquiries into the cause are ongoing.
