Bentley Unveils Torcal, Its First Production Electric SUV

Built in Crewe, the midsize model uses an 800V dual‑motor system plus a 113kWh battery with 400kW fast charging to expand Bentley’s line-up.

Overview

  • Bentley unveiled the Torcal in London on 23–24 September, confirming it as the marque’s first full production battery‑electric vehicle with a claimed WLTP range of about 375 miles and 400kW DC fast‑charging.
  • The Torcal will be designed, engineered and built at Bentley’s Crewe factory, with production set to start in the second quarter of 2027 after a reported £350 million investment that Bentley says will support about 4,000 UK jobs.
  • Two trims will launch: a Core model with lower outputs and an S variant that produces up to roughly 888 PS and 1,350 Nm of torque and does 0–60 mph in about 2.8–3.3 seconds depending on spec.
  • Bentley has applied brand‑specific touches to the EV, including an illuminated diamond grille, fully active suspension, a handcrafted ‘Dynamic Symphony’ propulsion sound made from real instruments, and new interior materials such as a 100% Merino wool textile.
  • After the Torcal reveal, CEO Frank‑Steffen Walliser said Bentley will adopt a more flexible electrification strategy, shortening development cycles and indicating the next Bentley EV is not expected before after 2030, a shift driven by market and regulatory uncertainty.
