Bentley Unveils Rear-Wheel-Drive Supersports, Its Lightest Car in 85 Years

The low-volume model underscores Bentley’s decision to keep a combustion-led halo in the lineup as it extends hybrid availability.

Overview

  • The Supersports, revealed in New York and codenamed Project Mildred, drops hybrid hardware and all-wheel drive for a tuned 4.0‑litre twin‑turbo V8 driving the rear wheels.
  • Bentley targets a sub‑2,000kg kerb weight through measures including a carbonfibre roof, removal of rear seats, less sound insulation and pared-back driver assists.
  • Outlets report slightly different peak outputs for the non‑hybrid V8, with figures ranging from 657bhp (Autocar) to 666hp (PistonHeads).
  • Chassis and aero changes include a 16mm wider rear track, recalibrated suspension and steering, the largest splitter on a roadgoing Bentley, stacked dive planes and a new diffuser, yielding over 300kg more downforce than a GT Speed and up to 1.3g on Trofeo RS tyres.
  • Bentley plans an initial run of 500 cars, with orders opening in March, production at Crewe slated for late next year and first customer deliveries expected in 2027.
