Bengaluru’s Bidadi Waste-to-Energy Plant Now Powers 25,000 Homes From 200 Tonnes of Daily Dry Waste

Officials set a month-end target to lift household dry-waste supply to 500 tonnes a day to further curb landfill use.

Overview

  • The facility is generating about 11.5 MW each day by converting segregated dry and low-grade plastic waste into electricity, according to BSWML.
  • Daily inputs currently total roughly 600 tonnes, comprising around 200 tonnes of household dry waste and about 400 tonnes of RDF from legacy dumps and DWCCs.
  • Since operations began in June 2024, the plant has processed 168,036 tonnes of waste and produced approximately 54.3 million units of power, KPCL officials said.
  • City data show compactor trips to landfills dropped from 390 to 340 over the past month as source segregation improved.
  • Set up by KPCL for about ₹314.7 crore under a DFCO&T model on a 163-acre site, the project diverts low-grade plastics from landfills, with ash to be used in road construction, the Energy Minister said.
