Bengaluru Yellow Line Gets Fifth Trainset, Testing Underway for Mid-October Induction

Testing over roughly two weeks would precede an expected cut in peak waits to about 14–15 minutes.

Overview

  • The six-coach fifth trainset reached Hebbagodi Depot on September 30 after being dispatched by Titagarh Rail Systems on September 19.
  • Before entering service, the rake must complete static checks, system integration for signalling, telecom and power, and about 750 km of mainline trials over 15–20 days.
  • BMRCL says induction is planned by mid-October, which would reduce current 19–20 minute headways to roughly 14–15 minutes.
  • The corridor opened in August with only three trains, leading to waits over 25 minutes and crowding, and it is currently operated manually despite CBTC hardware that enables driverless runs.
  • Rolling stock is being supplied by Titagarh under a partnership with CRRC after earlier delays, and reports indicate three additional trainsets are expected before year-end.
