Bengaluru Techie Arrested on Attempted-Murder Charge After Deliberate Scooter Ramming

CCTV evidence led police to upgrade the Oct. 26 crash to attempted murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Overview

  • Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old software engineer Sukrit Keshav Gowda, arrested near Balaji Layout, with the car seized and a court sending him to judicial custody.
  • The collision occurred around 7:11 pm on October 26 on New BEL Road near M. S. Ramaiah Hospital, where a Tata Curvv hit a Honda Dio from behind and the driver fled.
  • The victims were Vineth A., 33, his wife Ankita Patel, 31, and their young son; the couple were treated at M. S. Ramaiah Hospital and Vineth later sought further care at St. John’s, while the child had minor injuries.
  • After reviewing viral CCTV footage that investigators say shows a deliberate ramming, the case was transferred from traffic police to Sadashivanagar Law and Order for an attempt-to-murder probe.
  • Gowda has been booked under Section 109 of the BNS; police are examining motive and awaiting medical and forensic reports, noting his claims of losing power steering or only intending to scare.
