Bengaluru Rollout of Karnataka’s Social and Educational Survey Begins After Delays

Officials cite 63% statewide progress, reiterating that sensitive questions are optional.

Overview

  • Enumerators surveyed 22,141 households on day one across the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s five municipal corporations.
  • Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar launched the city exercise, completed the questionnaire at his home, urged cooperation, and called the form too long for urban respondents.
  • Protests by some enumerators over location allotments and personal constraints, along with technical glitches, caused a bumpy start in parts of the city.
  • GBA chief M. Maheshwar Rao said early technical and allotment issues were anticipated and are being addressed through app updates, added training, and field supervision.
  • Statewide, the drive runs through October 7 with about 1.75 lakh enumerators using a 60‑question app to cover roughly two crore households, and progress stands at 63.03% as of October 2.
