Bengaluru Ramps Up Road Repairs: 13,000 Potholes Fixed as ₹1,100-Crore Arterial Upgrade Plan Takes Shape

Corporate pressure plus a 30-day directive has accelerated repairs across the city.

Overview

  • Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar said crews have fixed about 13,000 potholes, with each repair documented through photos, video and GPS for verification.
  • He directed officials to prepare a ₹1,100 crore plan to upgrade 550 km of arterial roads, with major junctions to be concretised over about 26 days per site under forthcoming traffic plans.
  • Shivakumar said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has promised ₹750 crore specifically for pothole filling, alongside ₹1,100 crore to MLAs for ward-level road improvements.
  • Officials reported another 4,000–5,000 identified potholes will be addressed in stages, with police assistance and a new citizen app to report trouble spots.
  • The stepped-up drive follows citywide inspections under a 30-day motorable-roads deadline and heightened scrutiny from industry after BlackBuck cited road conditions in leaving Bellandur.
